timelab bestaat uit een fabLab, een artistiek residentieprogramma, maatschappelijk onderzoek en ontmoetingsmomenten waar kunstenaars, experten en geïnteresseerden elkaar, ideeën en inspiratie kunnen vinden.

Het eerste echte publieke fabLab in België bevindt zich in Gent en maakt onderdeel uit van het timelab. Hier kan iedereen die zin heeft op vrijdag, tijdens de Open Lab dagen, terecht om zijn/haar eigen, unieke ontwerpen te materialiseren. Artistieke Residenties
timelab nodigt kunstenaars uit voor een residentietraject. Hun achtergronden kunnen heel uiteenlopend zijn. Bij sommigen is de link met technologie zeer aanwezig, anderen vertrekken eerder vanuit een beschouwend kader over bijvoorbeeld het functioneren van de mens in onze samenleving. In 2010 zal Nikolaus Gansterer gedurende het hele jaar af en toe in het timelab opduiken. De kunstenaar Geert-Jan Hobijn (Staalplaat Soundsystem) zal in een korte en intense residentie een project in Gent opzetten, in de herfst. Ga naar www.timelab.org/residenties
fabCases en Talklabs
In de fabCases wordt de maatschappelijke relevantie van technologie en het fabLab/timelab onderzocht. De fabCases zijn onderdeel van het grotere onderzoek naar het ontwikkelen van een methodologie omtrent de verhouding tussen het fab- en timelab en haar omgeving. Voor de Talklabs nodigt timelab, naast kunstenaars, ook stakeholders, beleids- en opiniemakers uit om te debatteren over thema’s die de werkplaats ter harte neemt. We denken aan recyclage, privacy of bijvoorbeeld open source. Meer info: www.timelab.org/cases
It’s all about the people
Naast de talrijke ontmoetingen in het fabLab en een reeks opleidingstrajecten, is er het jaarlijks summercamp waar 15 kunstenaars, lokaal en internationaal, worden uitgenodigd voor een intensief traject gedurende tien dagen in de stad. De editie 2010 vindt plaats van 20 tot 30 juni. Maandelijks is er de internationale netwerkbijeenkomst Dorkbot, ‘people doing strange things with electricity’, waarbij makers de technische aspecten van hun creaties of onderzoek toelichten voor een groep geïnteresseerden. Tot slot toont timelab OPEN jaarlijks, aan het begin van de lente, een stand van zaken.
www.timelab.org -> hier vind je alle info over de werking. timelab streeft er bovendien naar alle aspecten van de werking, onderzoeksresultaten van allerlei aard, maar ook het werkporces zelf, te documenteren en via de website aan het publiek te tonen.

Ghent boasts Belgium’s first real public fabLab. It is part of the timelab. Anyone and everyone can come along to the Friday Open labDays to realize their very own designs. There is also scope for larger projects.
Artists-in-residence
timelab invites artists from diverse backgrounds to take part in a residential programme. For some the link with technology is all-important; others prefer to start from a contemplative standpoint about, for example, man’s role in society.
fabCases and Talklabs
The fabCases examine the social relevance of technology and the fabLab/timelab. The fabCases are part of wider research into developing a methodology about the relationship between the fabLab and timelab and its environment. For the Talklabs, timelab invites not only artists but also stakeholders, policy and opinion-makers to debate themes which the workplace sets store by. Here we are thinking of, for example, recycling, privacy and open source.
It’s all about the people
In addition to the numerous get-togethers in the fabLab and a series of training programmes, there is an annual summer camp, an intensive ten-day programme in the city for15 artists from home and abroad.
Every month there is the international network meeting Dorkbot, “people doing strange things with electricity”, where makers explain the technical aspects of their creations or research to a group of interested people.
Finally, every year in early spring the timelab OPEN assesses the state of play.

A lab in the city
A lab for the future is not only a place where peers and experts come into contact on an international platform. Timelab is a local and global meetingpoint and explores what is going on in the city and society.
A lab is not a fortified castle
A lab provides an alternative vision, it can break through niches and knock down partitions and walls. TimeLab strives to be accessible, to enter into dialogue, to be open to new ideas and different opinions.
A lab user must be interested in everything
Expertise and specialization are important but above all working in the TimeLab requires an open mind.
Open and connected
Open and connected means helping eachother, working as a team and respecting one another.
The only way is the green way
Ecological awareness is an intrinsic principle of every futuristic lab.
TimeLab is supported by the Flemish Community, the Province of East Flanders and the City of Ghent.
