Juliana Borinski

Born in 1979 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, she studied at the Academy of Media Art Cologne (KHM) in Germany with Valie Export, Jürgen Klauke and Matthias Müller, where she graduated in 2007 with a MFA in audio-visual media. Between 2004 and 2005 she studied at the Villa Arson, art school in Nice, France.
The work of Juliana Borinski blurs the borders between different practices such as video, experimental cinema, photography and performance. Her expanded media installations often integrate basic new technologies materials or machines referring to historical media techniques or physic experiments. Contrasting with the contemporary technological complexity and aesthetics, they propose very simple sensitive experiences: the contemplation of phenomenon or abstract images. Proposing interfaces between spectators and reality, those installations try to focus on the original role of media and its aesthetic potential.
