Our Makerbots

We love our Makerbots. Besides using them for the manufacture of a number of small components, they were a big inspiration for the CNC-designs.

The Makerbots aren't the first open-source DIY 3D-printers. Repraps have been around much longer. They are not even thehighest-quality ones, the BitsfromBytes-machines achieve better build quality and are more reliable.
We believe one of the key elements in the success of Makerbot Industries is the practical ease-of-assembly of their design. By using accurate, lasercut panels for the frame, the machine clicks together into a straight, level, orthogonal box without much headache.

The difference between a Reprap and a Makerbot isn't the quality of the prints, or even the cost. It's the fact that a novice builder can actually put the Makerbot kit together in a weekend, while the Reprap is a much more challenging build.

On the level of reproducing the parts it's a similar story. We can replicate the frame for the Makerbots on our lasercutter in a little over 1,5 hour. Printing all parts for the Reprap will take over 24 hours on our printers...

We currently have 3 operational Makerbots:

-One batch6-bot with a MarkiV-extruder and a heated build platform
-One bot with a Frostruder head mounted
-One bot with a MarkV-extruder

Every first wednesday of the month we organize a Makerbot / RepRap / 3D printing evening from 19u00 till 22u00. For more info, feel free to contact us.
