facts & Figures
timelab is a non-profit organisation.
timelab is an art workshop, structurally subsidized by the Flemish Community under 'het kunstendecreet' for an amount of 210,000 euro. timelab has a private residence policy and has an average of two artists per year in residence. Besides that there is the annual summer camp as an introduction and immersion for 12 international and local artists in the working of timelab and the city. This annual summer camp is sponsored by 'Vooruit' (Transdigital)
timelab has a fablab that is part of the international network of Fablab. Every Wednesdaynight and Friday this lab is open to everyone. In fablab everyone can realize his/her own ideas, create a dialogue with others and make their ideas and designs available to other designers. On Wednesday, The people who are interested can give a presentation on their new projects or participate in timelabprojects that form the basis for many workshops. This Fridays and Wednesdays are made possible by the support of the Flemish City Fund that donates over 25,000 euros. This way timelab is putting Ghent on the international map as creative and innovative city.
Due to the continued working of the Fablab, the timelab community is growing rapidly and skills and knowledge are shared and made available to peers, experts, artists and designers.
From this emerged two developing lines. On one side we have the free and spontaneous encounters, but also more organized moments of knowledge-sharing through the workshops. These workshops are given by people from our community. On the other side timelab initiates research projects during Build Nights where we build community tools that we can use in the workshops. Both of these developing lines are focused on stimulating the creation and innovation of the final result. Some creations that are developed in timelab even are market ready and have a special contemporary design. These creations will be soon for sale, through some distribution channels provided by timelab.
Besides the hands-on technical approach during the workshops there are also events where gastronomy forms the common denominator between people and technology. Here is the fablab method of sharing and cooperation translated into something that concerns us all: our food.
