The Janitor, defined by Wim Cuyvers as hosting rooted in continuity and care, is the central theme of this excursion. At Montavoix, a remote site in the Jura mountains; Wim Cuyvers lives and practices a life in relation where hosting unfolds through maintenance, presence, and responsiveness to place over time.
Guests are active participants in a landscape that requires continuous effort to maintain. Paths are cleared, spaces opened and closed, structures repaired, and rhythms of use negotiated in relation to weather, season, and human presence. Hosting here is practiced without promises, without spectacle, and without predefined outcomes.
The trip includes communal living, daily chores, walks, and discussions with Wim Cuyvers, our host. These activities allow participants to practice guesting. Together, through action, observation, and site inhabitation, reflection takes shape.
We travel by train, which takes approximately 8 hours. The journey is just as crucial as the destination. We have a max of 8 people including 2 guides.
Pre-registration open until April 1st , apply by writing a short motivation text. Selection of participants based on group dynamics and experience. Selection announcement by April 20.
